WWE SELLING THE SUCCESS OF WRESTLEMANIA 27

WWE issued the following press release late last night after WrestleMania 27:

WrestleMania XXVII Breaks Records
April 3, 2011

ATLANTA, GA – April 3, 2011 – WWE® made history again as WrestleMania®, for the second consecutive year, became the highest grossing and most attended entertainment event in the host venue. WrestleMania XXVII grossed $6.6 million, with 71,617 in attendance. Fans from all 50 states and 30 countries were at the sold out event at the Georgia Dome in Atlanta tonight. The annual pop-culture extravaganza was broadcast around the world on pay-per-view in more than 100 countries and 20 languages.

The previous attendance record at the Georgia Dome for an entertainment event was set by The Backstreet Boys which attracted 65,658 fans on February 19, 2000. The U2 concert on October 6, 2009, which grossed $5.7 million, was the Georgia Dome’s highest grossing entertainment event until tonight.

“WrestleMania XXVII was an overwhelming success and one for the Atlanta history books. WWE would like to thank our public and private sector partners for helping to make WWE’s annual pop-culture extravaganza a memorable one,” said John P. Saboor, Senior Vice President of Special Events, WWE. “We now look forward to building on that success as we head to next year’s WrestleMania in Miami.”

WrestleMania XXVIII will take place on Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, FL. Ticket information will be announced later this year.

ROYAL RUMBLE WINNER LOSES AT WRESTLEMANIA FOR 4TH TIME

After Alberto Del Rio lost to Edge at last night’s WrestleMania 27, this makes the fourth straight year that the Royal Rumble winner has came up short at WrestleMania.

John Cena, Randy Orton, Edge and now Del Rio have all lost the big title match at WrestleMania after winning the Rumble. The last one to win a title after winning the Rumble was The Undertaker in 2007.

BACKSTAGE NEWS ON ROCK AT WRESTLEMANIA

Vince McMahon or The Rock were not in the crowd for Saturday night’s Hall of Fame ceremony. We don’t know yet if The Rock was there but he was probably backstage with Vince and The Undertaker.

JIM CARREY , SNOOP DOGG AT WRESTLEMANIA

Some of the celebrities at WrestleMania 27 last night were singer Chili, rapper Snoop Dogg, actor Jim Carrey and Pee-Wee Herman.

SHEAMUS VS DANIEL BRYAN CHANGED AT WRESTLEMANIA 27

The decision to move Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 27 to the pre-show was first discussed a few days ago and finally decided on yesterday afternoon. WWE officials re-worked the WrestleMania card several times yesterday and made several edits.

NO INJURIES AT WRESTLEMANIA

There are no major injuries coming out of WrestleMania last night. However, the WWE crews are worn out from the past week in Atlanta and most are looking forward to wrapping up this week’s RAW and SmackDown TV tapings.

WHO WERE CARRYING TRIPLE H'S SHEILDS AT WRESTLEMANIA

The men carrying Triple H’s shields during his entrance at WrestleMania last night were talents from WWE developmental. They were all told to hide their faces at all costs.

NO TITLE CHANGES AT WRESTLEMANIA

WrestleMania 27 was the first WrestleMania in history that did not see a title change hands. Both Edge and The Miz retained their respective titles last night in the only two title matches on the main card.

HALL OF FAME TICKET SALE MORE THAN RAW

Going into WrestleMania weekend, word was that the Hall of Fame had more tickets sold than tonight’s RAW did. That could have changed by now as more RAW tickets were sold over the weekend. RAW probably won’t be sold out tonight unless they sold a lot of tickets over the weekend and today.

CM PUNK TALKS ABOUT TAG TEAM WRESTLING, HIS LIFESTYLE

Acorn-online.com has published quotes from CM Punk at this weekend’s WrestleMania Axxess session. When asked what a day in the life of a WWE Superstar is like, Punk said:

“It varies I guess depending on who you are. For me, depending on what part of the country I’m in, it’s trying to sleep as much as I can, which isn’t very much at all, wake up, try to eat, try to get to the gym, try to get to the building on time and then try and put on a good show for everyone. Then the next day it’s really wash, rinse and repeat. That might sound pretty boring and sometimes it is but the time I’m most happy is when I’m [in the ring] and the bell rings. From bell to bell I don’t think there’s anyone in the world that can touch me at what I do. It’s the only time I’m having fun, honestly. It sounds cheesy but when I’m in the ring I have no boss. I run things and it’s my show.”

Punk was also asked who he would like to be in a tag team with. Punk replied and expressed his feelings on tag team wrestling:

“I hate tag team wrestling. I hate having to rely on someone. If it’s me and John Cena [one on one] in there that’s great. I’m the boss. I’m in charge. When it’s me and somebody else and somebody else and somebody else, and I don’t know what the hell is going on and I’m yelling at everyone to shut up, it’s really a time when there’s too many chiefs and not enough Indians. I would rather not tag up with anyone else.”

VICKIE GUERRERO TALKS ABOUT BEING COUGAR

Vickie Guerrero was interviewed by The Greenwich Post this weekend at WrestleMania Axxess in Atlanta. Here is what she thinks about being cougar:

Fans calling her a cougar:
“It’s so much fun. I’m honored because they’re flirting with me and it makes me feel good. I’m a single woman and I like younger men, being the cougar that I am.”

MIZ TALKS ABOUT HIS LEGACY, MIZ LEGACY

The Post also published quotes from WWE Champion The Miz at the Axxess Q&A session with fans. When The Miz was asked about his legacy in WWE, he said:

“The legacy of The Miz is going to be like this. I am the guy that worked the hardest and dedicated himself each and every day. When people say this job is too hard or we’re on the road too much, I’m the guy saying ‘I need more media’ and ‘I need more outlets’ and ‘Give me every spot you have.’ My legacy will be that not only will I be the greatest, most WWE Champion in the history of this company, but you will remember The Miz as WWE. You will no longer think of The Rock or Stone Cold Steve Austin or Hulk Hogan or any of those top names. You will think of The Miz.”

WRESTLEMANIA CREATES RECORD FOR ATTENDANCE

WWE set an attendance record for any entertainment event at The Georgia Dome in Atlanta tonight with 71,617 announced fans.
