JERRY LAWLER TALKS ABOUT MIZ,WRESTLEMANIA AND JR

WWE Hall of Famer Jerry Lawler was interviewed recently by Fighting Spirit Magazine. Here are some quotes, courtesy of The Sun:

Jim Ross’ future with WWE:
“JR and I had some tremendous chemistry, but I don’t think you’ve seen the last of that. I think JR will be back on the air in some capacity. He’s too good not to utilise. A lot of people don’t realise what the situation is with him. He had a couple — I guess three now — real serious bouts of Bell’s Palsy, which is very similar in effects to a stroke.

They don’t really know, but they think the attacks are brought on by stress. Nobody takes their job more seriously than good old JR. The reason Vince has kept him off TV all this time is because he’s concerned with his health. He’s worried that if he puts him back out there regularly, he’ll have another Bell’s Palsy attack.”

His feud with The Miz:
“I thought the matches, especially the TLC match with The Miz, were good. I know that after the match was over, when I came back to the Gorilla Position, everybody standing there gave me a standing ovation. Vince came over and hugged me and said: ‘Man-oh-man, what a great match!’”

Wrestling at WrestleMania:
“I’ve been with WWE for 17 years and that’s something I’ve never achieved. I remember in 2007, when Vince came to me and said they were going to induct me into the Hall of Fame, I said that I didn’t want to. He said: ‘What do you mean, you don’t want to?’ I replied: ‘Most people feel like your career is over when you go into the Hall of Fame, like in baseball or football or something. Also, I’ve never done that much here, Vince. I’ve never won a title, I’ve never even wrestled on a WrestleMania.’ He said: ‘What? You’ve never wrestled on a Wrestlemania in all the years you’ve been here? That’s a tragedy. We’ve got to fix that next year.’

That was his mindset then, but things get put on the backburner. First 2008 came and I didn’t get a match, then 2009 came and I didn’t get a match, then 2010. But I must say that there’s never really been a point in time in those years when I’ve been involved as much as I have been as of late. So if there ever was a time for it to happen, I think this would be the most advantageous.

And would I love to have a WrestleMania match? Oh boy, yes. Other than getting inducted into the Hall of Fame, that would maybe be the highlight of my career to finally get to perform there.”

LOSING STREAK CONTINUES FOR SHEAMUS

Going into his apparent WrestleMania feud with United States Champion Daniel Bryan, Sheamus currently is on a 6-loss losing streak for WWE TV and pay-per-view matches. The former WWE Champion has a TV/pay-per-view win-loss record of 1-8 for 2011 so far. As noted before, RAW producer Kevin Dunn reportedly isn’t a fan of Sheamus.

CHAVO GUERRERO SR. COMMENTS ON EDDIE'S DAUGHTER

Chavo “Classic” Guerrero recently appeared on ThaOShow.com and was asked about his brother Eddie Guerrero’s daughter, Shaul Guerrero, debuting with WWE’s Florida Championship Wrestling. Chavo said he wished he could have trained Shaul so she would be safe and best served.

He said he believes that if Eddie were still alive, Shaul would not be involved in the wrestling business. Chavo Sr. also said that Vickie Guerrero has really separated herself from the Guerrero family since Eddie passed away.

MORE ON WRESTLEMANIA AXXESS

The WrestleMania Axxess signings on Saturday night during the WWE Hall of Fame are usually dreaded by some of the WWE talents as they have to miss the start, or sometimes all of the ceremony. The wrestlers signing during the Hall Of Fame this year are David Hart Smith, Tyson Kidd, The Usos, Primo, Chris Masters, Kaitlyn, Rosa Mendes, Justin Gabriel, Heath Slater, Ezekiel Jackson and Wade Barrett.

CHRIS JERICHO'S BIG ANNOUNCEMENT

Chris Jericho announced today in Los Angeles that he will be the host of the Revolver Golden God Awards, airing on VH1 Classics on April 20th. Jericho’s band Fozzy will be performing that night and WWE Champion The Miz has been nominated for the “Most Metal Athlete” award.

WWE OFFICIALLY SIGNS MISTICO AKA SIN CARA

STAMFORD, Conn. – WWE today unveiled their latest Superstar signing, Sin Cara, formerly known worldwide as Mistico. The announcement took place today during a press conference in his hometown Mexico City, where passionate fans of all ages turned out to see their favorite performer become the newest addition to the WWE roster.

Having already forged a strong international fan following, Sin Cara, known for his high flying style and awe inspiring acrobatics, is expected to reach new heights of global success with WWE.

“Sin Cara is a tremendous performer who brings the crowd to its feet every time he steps into the ring,” said Stephanie McMahon, Executive Vice President, WWE. “With us, his stardom will only get bigger and brighter.”

Upon his signing, Sin Cara said, “WWE is the pinnacle of sports-entertainment. It is an honor and a thrill for me to be able to perform with the world’s best. Being a WWE Superstar will present new challenges, new mountains to climb and new competition. It is a new beginning and a new life. With that in mind, I have chosen the new name of Sin Cara in hopes to represent all the legendary Mexican masked performers and to carry the banner of their legacy to the entire world.”

WHY ALBERTO GOING TO WRESTLEMANIA WITHOUT A TITLE

In a sign of how much WWE thinks of the Intercontinental Title, the fact that Kofi Kingston vs. Alberto Del Rio was a non-title match at Elimination Chamber was to be ignored during commentary and promotion of the match.

WWE had talked at one point of making it a title match and having Intercontinental Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. World Heavyweight Champion Edge at WrestleMania 27 but decided against it, with the feeling that it would be better for Del Rio to go into WrestleMania without a title.

TRIPLE H GETS NEW ROLE IN WWE

Triple H is having more control over WWE’s recruiting these days and it will be interesting to see what kind of guys he’s looking for over the next year or so. It’s said that Triple H has a mindset of making talents into something before putting them on the main roster and TV, through introductory pieces. WWE is now working with a former wrestler in the UK, who is scouting talents for them, looking for guys with impressive builds.

CENA TEAMS WITH ENEMIES??

Out of the four times that John Cena has held the WWE Tag Team Titles, it has been with someone he was feuding with at that time. Cena won the belts with Shawn Michaels in 2007, Batista in 2008, David Otunga in 2010 and The Miz this past Monday night. Each time Cena won the tag titles with an opponent, the reigns got shorter - two months, one week, one day and 12 minutes.

RAW RATINGS FOR 2-21-11

As noted before, Monday's RAW scored a high 3.9 cable rating with 5,860,000 viewers. This week's show did hours of 3.85 (5.89 million viewers) and 3.85 (5.82 million viewers). This was the highest rated RAW since the September 7th, 2009 episode and the most first-hour viewers since the June 22nd, 2009 commercial-free RAW. Overall, this week's show has the most average viewers since the post-SummerSlam RAW on August 24th, 2009.

This week's show was the #1 ranked show of all cable TV for the night in total viewers and in male demographics. WWE's usual competition for the male demographics, History Channel's Pawn Stars and American Pickers, did not air this week.

THE ROCK COMMENTS ON UNDERTAKER VS TRIPLE H

The Rock commented on The Undertaker and Triple H's return to RAW on Monday with the following on Twitter: "loved seeing both Undertaker and Triple H return..what incredible crowd reactions for both..very happy for them - epic match!"

SPECULATION ON WHO WILL BE ANNOUNCING WRESTLEMANIA

There is some speculation as to who will be announcing WrestleMania 27 as the feeling is it doesn’t make much sense to have Jerry Lawler and Michael Cole call most of it and then work a match against each other. Jim Ross is always being speculated on for a return but at last year’s WrestleMania, early plans were for him to announce but he didn’t. Shawn Michaels and Undertaker even requested that Ross work the pay-per-view but it wasn’t the direction that Vince McMahon wanted.

VINCE MCMAHON HIGH ON COLE VS LAWLER

It’s said that Vince McMahon is loving the current Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler storyline as he gets to live vicariously through Cole. Most of Cole’s key lines on TV are fed to him by Vince. The current angle with Cole and Lawler is being patterned after Lawler’s most famous angle ever, the one in the early 80′s with comedian Andy Kaufman.

WWE TO INTRODUCE MISTICO?

Jim Ross and WWE announcer Carlos Cabrera will be hosting a press conference this afternoon in Mexico City at 3:30pm from the Vive Cuervo Salón. The event is free and open to the public.

There are rumors that WWE will be announcing a future TV taping in Mexico or introduce Mistico as the newest member of their roster. It’s interesting that WWE’s press conference will take place just two hours after EMLL’s press conference where they will discuss Mistico leaving their promotion for WWE.

BETH TEASES BIG PLANS

Beth Phoenix continues to tease news on her Twitter. She wrote the following earlier this week: “To those who have missed me…fear not. There are great things ahead. Patience. The Glamazon has BIG plans.”

KEVIN NASH FOR 5 YEARS, MIZ VS LAWLER ORIGINAL PLANS

The feud between Jerry Lawler and The Miz was originally planned to be just a feud for TV but when officials saw the reactions from the crowd and the ratings, they decided to run with it.

Kevin Nash signed a 5 year contract with WWE.

UPDATE ON UNDERTAKER VS TRIPLE H FEUD

Triple H and The Undertaker are the ones putting together their current program for WrestleMania 27, with minimal input from WWE creative.

Taker was originally scheduled to face Wade Barrett and Triple H was set to face Sheamus at WrestleMania but the two got together and realized that WrestleMania 27 had no special match. As WWE’s two most power political forces, they felt they could take control of their own angle without much in the way of outside influence.

Shawn Michaels is still expected to be introduced into the storyline and have a role at WrestleMania, possibly as a referee or an enforcer. The idea behind the storyline is that Triple H is going at Taker for revenge after Taker ended his best friend’s career.
