In a pre-taped segment, Jericho recalled the story of his mother suffering an accident when he was training to be a wrestler, which confined her to a wheelchair until her passing in 2005. He prepared to give up wrestling but she insisted he continue pursuing his dreams.
Jericho said his real name is Chris Irvine and that for the first time in his professional life he would be performing as himself and not a character.
Introduced as Chris Irvine, he danced the rumba with partner Cheryl Burke to receive a score of 21. The judges felt he lacked technical skill but complimented him on the emotional connection.
