INTERESTING EXCHANGE BETWEEN CM PUNK AND JOHN CENA

After John Cena defeated CM Punk in the main event of the WWE live event in Brisbane yesterday, Punk took the mic and put over Cena, showing respect. Punk then started talking about The Rock, saying that while Rock is off filming movies, Cena is here in sickness and health performing for the WWE Universe. Punk and Cena shook hands before he left.

Cena then spoke, also putting over Punk and showing respect. Cena called Punk the best wrestler in WWE right now and said their Money in the Bank match will be the match of the year. Even bigger than he and The Rock at WrestleMania, he said.

FUTURE OF NEXUS AFTER CM PUNK LEAVES WWE

An idea was brought up by WWE creative recently to put Zack Ryder in a new group with WWE Tag Team Champions David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty, who may be without a stable if or when Nexus dies after CM Punk’s departure.

- Speaking of Nexus’ future, Mason Ryan will likely be repackaged. There has been talk of using him as a bodyguard for either The Miz or Alberto Del Rio

WWE USING CM PUNK TRADEMARK

As noted before, WWE recently trademarked Punk’s name for merchandising which indicates they are planning on putting out a new line of products for him. Punk giving WWE the rights to his name was an issue in the past, so that could be a hint that both sides have reached some kind of agreement, even if it’s not a new contract.

Even though WWE has trademarked the name, Punk can still use it anyway he wants once he leaves the company because he brought the name with him when the business relationship between he and WWE began. Punk created the intellectual property but WWE now has the right to merchandise the CM Punk name and likeness.

WWE CONFIRMS CM PUNK'S DEPARTURE FROM WWE

As part of a response to CM Punk aiming a homophobic slur at a fan during Monday’s Raw house show in Australia, WWE claimed CM Punk is legitimately leaving WWE after the Money in the Bank PPV and it’s “not part of a storyline.”

The following was printed on Opposingviews.com Tuesday covering the story:

“WWE officials also told GLAAD this morning that C.M. Punk’s contract will expire in a few weeks, he will not be immediately renewed, and he will no longer be with WWE as of July 18. A spokesperson told us ‘this departure is not part of a storyline. He is contractually leaving the organization.’ A spokesperson for the WWE told us ‘We are taking this very seriously.’”

To the point of how WWE is responding to Punk’s slur, GLAAD says they are talking to WWE about directly working with talent on sensitivity training. GLAAD worked with WWE’s writing team in May, but has not worked with talent.

GLAAD said, “Because this event (Raw house show in Australia) was not intended to be televised, and it took place during an unscripted interaction with the audience, none of the people we had already trained were involved. As a result, we are now in discussions with WWE to provide trainings to its on-camera talent, including the wrestlers themselves.”
