MICKIE JAMES TALKS ABOUT LEAVING WWE, HER MUSIC CAREER

- Mickie comes onto the show and jumps into a discussion on her new album “Strangers & Angels” and she says the experience has been very positive with good reviews & a great fan response.

- She decided to go into music because its something she’s always loved. She played violin in high school and was always interested in it, and she began writing songs while on the road in the WWE. She was never professionally trained to sing, but decided to give it a shot and she’s very happy with how its turned out.

- For right now, she’s trying to balance both wrestling & music, and will actually be facing Awesome Kong in October. She did make it sound as though music was more the route she was hoping to travel.

- Going into her wrestling career, James mentions being a fan of her work since first seeing her in BBOW back in 2001. She says going from the independents to the WWE was a huge accomplishment in her career. She was also very proud of the storyline with herself and Trish Stratus for Wrestlemania 22. She feels she was brought up to the main roster in an awesome story that helped her in the long run.

- James mentions that on this show’s WrestleMania 22 preview years ago, they remarked that the longest running story going into the show was the Mickie/Trish angle and as a result, it was one of the most anticipated. Mickie says there was pressure to deliver, but they both knew their characters well & understood the storyline perfectly, so they made it work.

- In comparing music to wrestling, she says that wrestling is more of a display of strength while performing music shows a more vulnerable side of her, so fans get to see a different side to her personality.

- She talks about her appearance on the television show “Psych” and she had a lot of fun playing the role she played. She says acting isn’t really the route she’s attempting to travel but she’s open to it.

- Mickie felt that the reason WWE didn’t want to use her Indy name “Alexis Laree” is because they probably thought it didn’t sound like a real name. She had no problems using her real name on WWE television as the name sounds cool. She gives her mother props for the cool name though Mickie and James brieftly joke
about the “Hey Mickie” song from the 80’s.

- When she started going into music, she says that the WWE supported her every step along the way up until she left the company.

- Dixie Carter attended some of Mickie’s concerts, and when asked if she’d go back to TNA, she says its something that interests her. However, she wants to balance both music & wrestling. She says she’ll have to see where music takes her and if she would be able to do both. She did also mention that TNA has a less strenuous schedule.

- She’s going to perform at a huge concert in her hometown of Richmond, VA with huge country music talents such as Gretchen Wilson and Montgomery Gentry. She says it’s a huge honor to be doing a big show like that, especially with big names involved. She says it is by far the biggest audience she’ll have ever sung in front of and is so happy that it is in her own hometown.

- She has heard people compare it to Gretchen Wilson which she sees as a massive compliment but she wants Gretchen to sound like Gretchen and Mickie to sound like Mickie.

- Mickie describes her music as “Where country meets rock”. James says he can hear a lot of rock influence, especially classic Southern rock. Mickie seems happy that he caught that.

- The discussion shifts to her leaving the WWE. Mickie says that there were goals she wishes she had accomplished, but was happy with her success there. When asked about the “Piggy James” story with Michelle McMcool, she acknowledges the mixed reactions the storyline got, but it ultimately didn’t get the payoff it needed because she got the Staff Infection. She also talks about how she forced herself to be ready in time for Wrestlemania 26.

- She has written more music for another album and hopes to keep growing bigger and bigger in her music career as she continues to improve.

- James mentions that recent guests have said how loyal wrestling fans are. Mickie agrees saying she has some of the best fans in the world and that wrestling fans are a lot like music fans in that if they really connect with you, they’ll be fans for life. She loves them all.

UPDATE ON NEW WWE TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Vince McMahon made the decision to rename the Unified WWE Tag Team Championship the WWE Tag Team Championship because he wanted new belts to be marketed. Another reason given for the change is that it’s easier for talent to pass through airports with one set of belts than two.
It is currently unknown if the belts will be considered a brand new championship or if they will carry the lineage of either one or both Tag Team Championships.

NEXUS WILL BE OVER

Its believed that The Nexus will be over in October.

UPDATE ON SERENA'S RELEASE

Serena’s sudden release from World Wrestling Entertainment is being compared to Mickie James’ dismissal from the organization earlier this year as both involved matters concerning behavioral problems on the road.
Serena had been warned several times by management to tighten up her road behavior as she was putting her job at risk. It ultimately reached a point where WWE had no choice but to let her go, just as a big push was planned no less.
It is said that the episode of SmackDown in which Serena was caught drinking alcohol at a bar was designed to send a message to her over her partying habits. An irate CM Punk immediately chastised her following the airing of the video, but she was forgiven the following week. Luke Gallows, however, refused to follow suit and walked out on his fellow Straight Edge Society members.
News of her departure is being kept under wraps internally, but an announcement is expected to be made this weekend.

WWE RELEASED SERENA

While specific details surrounding Serena’s abrupt departure from WWE have yet to be disclosed, it said that she was let go in a disciplinary measure. The Pro Wrestling Torch cryptically notes that she was not “living out” her Straight Edge Society persona in public.
The decision to cut the six-time Ohio Valley Wrestling Women’s Champion was actually made a few days ago, but word had not surfaced until Monday night.
It would appear that an official announcement has not yet been made by WWE as she’s due to make an appearance on this week’s edition of Friday Night SmackDown, which was taped last Wednesday. She accompanies Luke Gallows to the ring for a match against Big Show.

LILLIAN GARCIA SPEAKS ON LEAVING WWE, TRISH STRATUS AND MORE

Former WWE Diva/RAW ring announcer, Lilian Garcia, was the special guest on this week’s live edition (08/16/10) of the award-winning Monday Night Mayhem.

Lilian Garcia Discusses Her WWE Departure, Her Expectation Level When Starting With World Wrestling Entertainment, How She Almost Chose To Not Show Up To Her WWE Audition, If She Initially Thought She Would Have Lasted As Long As She Did With The Company/Been As Successful As She Was, Why Tony Chimel & Howard Finkel Were Instrumental In Her Success, The Criticisms Given To Justin Roberts/WWE’s Other Ring Announcers, The Impact Of Singing “America The Beautiful” On SmackDown After The 9/11 Attacks, “The People’s Strudel,” Why She Wants More To See More TV Time Given To The WWE Divas, The Transition Into The Next Phase Of Her Life/Career, The Details Of Her Forthcoming Album, & Her Appearance At This Weekend’s Chicago Comic Con.

Interview highlights courtesy of The Mayhem’s official correspondent, Paterson from New Jersey:

Why, in the end, she decided to leave World Wrestling Entertainment last September & what/whom she misses the most: “There’s nothing like having that one-on-one interaction with them: every time we’re out there, being able to hi-five & hug people. It’s just an amazing feeling. I miss some of the travel, I’m not crazy about all of the travel. Some of the places we went to were a lot of fun, especially when went overseas. I love Europe, and I love to experience different cultures, so I would definitely take advantage of the sightseeing. What I don’t miss is the airports & the hauling of the luggage. That kind of stuff wears on you, and when you do it ten years straight, it does wear on you. That’s why I have a lot of respect for all of the Superstars, because I didn’t have the grueling schedule that they would had of 300+ days a year, so I have respect for those who can do it and be away from their families. I really missed being away from my family, and that was one of the decision I made. When my contract was up, I was like do I sign on for a new contract, or do I really want to take the time to be with my family & my new husband, and I just made that decision that it was time.”

Her transition into the next phase of her life/career & the reason as to why she wanted to take time off: “It’s been a year since I left. It almost feels like right around the corner, and I can’t believe how time flies. So much has happened since I left. Actually, after I left on the 21st of September, I got married on the 28th of September, which was on a Monday, so it was ironic that I got married on a Monday. I went on a long amazing honeymoon and spent time with the family. I just took time off because I had been on the road for ten years straight. I did some work in Los Angeles, and a lot of doors starting opening up for me in L.A., so we made the decision to move to Los Angeles from New York, and we left in May. It’s just a fresh start & a new chapter in my life.”

Her expectation level when she started working for the WWE in 1999, how she almost chose to not show up to her WWE audition, why Tony Chimel & Howard Finkel were instrumental in her success, and if she initially thought she would have lasted as long as she did/been as successful as she was in World Wrestling Entertainment: “No, not at all. I’ll be honest with you, I had no idea what I was walking into, and I almost didn’t do the audition. I was called to New York to audition, and I looked at him and said ‘Are you kidding me…wrestling?’ He didn’t tell me what it was for, because the WWE didn’t tell him. I auditioned for a backstage interviewer for Super Astros, which was going to be on Univision, but I didn’t get it. It wasn’t until six months later that I got another call back, and they remembered me, and they needed people for SmackDown before it premiered. I auditioned again, and they called me, and they wanted to try me on for 1-3 months, and that I could leave at any time, and I was thinking I had nothing to lose…I’ll try it out. I went to my first show to find out that I was ring announcing that night, and Tony Chimel was there, and he sat with me and told me what I supposed to say. Between Chimel & Howard Finkel, I can’t thank them enough, because they could have easily sabotaged me, but they were so helpful, and I will never forget that.”

If she ever felt that the WWE Divas were not utilized properly during her time in the company & why she would like to see the Divas get more time on WWE television: “I always wished the Divas had more time on the show, because a lot of times, they get one match on the show. I see them working so hard, and they live & breathe this business just has much as the guys do. It depends on the writing, and the storylines, and ratings, and all of that. I could say that I wish they had more time, but I’m also partial to them too. I think it’s a great job they do week in & week out, and it’s not easy to write all these storylines & all these different ideas. I think the WWE does a good job on that, but of course personally, I would love to see more of the Divas going against each other.”

The bonds she formed during her time in the WWE, which WWE Diva she classified as her “best friend” (that she was sad to see go after her departure), & her reaction to the passings of Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit: “I guess every situation in different for everybody. I never felt outside the loop, or because I didn’t take bumps, I didn’t have anyone to comfort. I had a great camaraderie with all the superstars and especially all the divas. We had an amazing locker room throughout the years, and I saw a lot of people go in & out, which is sad, because I would form these really big bonds with a lot of them. Trish Stratus would be an example of one; we would travel together, and we were best friends, and when she left, I think I cried more than she did. I always felt like I had someone there, and I remember when we got the news about Eddie Guerrero & Chris Benoit, it was sad, and it was like a family atmosphere, and I remember hugging everybody. I had a great relationship with everyone.”

More is contained in this exclusive interview with the WWE’s first & only “Decade Diva,” including her candid thoughts/comments on returning to the company for one night only this past April, the criticisms given to Justin Roberts & the newer ring announcers since her departure, her relationship with Dawyne “The Rock” Johnson/the memorable “People’s Strudel” backstage vignettes, singing “America the Beautiful” on SmackDown after the 9/11 attacks, her top moments/matches from her time in the WWE, an update on her forthcoming musical projects (including when fans can expect to see the release of her new album), & how she plans on celebrating her birthday this Thursday. For all of the details on how you can meet Lilian Garcia this weekend in “The Windy City” for the Chicago Comic Con, be sure to log on to her official website (located at www.LilianGarcia.com), and be sure to follow Lilian on her official Twitter page (located at www.Twitter.com/LilianGarcia).

– We go to the ring and out comes The Nexus. Wade Barrett, Skip Sheffield, Michael Tarver, Darren Young, David Otunga, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater all make their way out to the ring.

Barrett says what doesn’t kill us, will only make us stronger. Lots of heat from the crowd here. Barrett says Team WWE barely got a victory last night. Wade says they beat 6 of the best that RAW had to offer. Barrett says rumors of Nexus’ demise are exaggerated because they’re still here and still ready to dominate WWE. Barrett says everyone was so afraid of Nexus winning at SummerSlam that they didn’t think what would happen if Nexus lost. Wade says they lost and now RAW will have to face severe consequences. Wade says there will be more suffering, more destruction, more pain and more misery for anyone who gets in their way.

Barrett goes on but is interrupted by the music of John Cena. Cena comes out wearing his new colors to a nice pop. Cena says he’s impressed because Wade talks such a big game. Cena says Wade is as tough as Snookie from Jersey Shore. Cena reminds Wade that he tapped out last night. A “you tapped out” chant starts. Cena says Wade caused Nexus to lose. Cena throws out a Stallone/Austin reference with The Expendables. Cena brings up Daniel Bryan and says he eliminated half of the Nexus team by himself. Cena says one thing was made clear last night – Nexus is human and can be beat. Cena says tonight, we’re going to look at Nexus as individuals. Cena says Otunga is nothing more than a below-average male escort who clings to a woman’s arm on the red carpet. Cena calls Tarver a MMA bank robber who works at night as a male stripper. Cena compares Slater to the chick from Wendy’s and shows a graphic of Heath’s face on Wendy’s body. A “Wendy’s” chant breaks out.

Cole gets boo’d as he makes the announcement from the General Manager. We’re going to continue SummerSlam tonight as each member of Nexus will compete against members of Team WWE in a series of matches. Interference by members of Nexus will be met with consequences, Cole reads. Barrett says that’s not a form of punishment, that’s an opportunity for redemption. A larger “you tapped out” chant breaks out. Wade says this is a chance to examine The Nexus and see if there are weak links. Barrett says if there are any weak links, they will be weeded out. Barrett says if anyone in Nexus doesn’t win tonight, they will be exiled from the group. By the end of tonight, he says, Nexus will be stronger than ever. Otunga says that’s fine by them but this applies to Wade also. Otunga says if Wade loses tonight, any of them will be happy to take over. The e-mail alert goes off again. Cole says the General Manager is letting Nexus choose their WWE opponents, except for Wade Barrett. It will be Barrett vs. Chris Jericho, up next. The GM says he doesn’t like Bret Hart and never has liked Bret. The GM never wants to see Bret perform on RAW again. His substitution will be… Randy Orton! Orton’s music hits and he comes out to a big pop, with a smirk on his face.
